Abandoned Vehicle Abatement

Overview

By ordinance, the City of Oroville Code Enforcement Department removes (abates) vehicles that are a public nuisance or a health and safety hazard. Nuisance vehicles include abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, inoperable or unregistered vehicles. 

Any Vehicle that is abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or any inoperative part thereof that is on public or private property that creates a condition tending to reduce the value of private property promotes blight and deterioration, invites plundering, creates fire hazards, constitutes an attractive nuisance endangering the health and safety of minors, harbors rodents and insects or jeopardizes, health, safety and general welfare is a public nuisance. 

Note: Code Enforcement does not enforce California parking laws, if you feel a vehicle is violation parking laws, please contact the Oroville Police Department via the NON-EMERGENCY line (530) 538-2448 to a file a report. Parking violations include parking in front of a fire hydrant, parking the wrong way, blocking a driveway or unauthorized parking in a handicap parking space.

 

What is an Abandoned Vehicle?

  • A vehicle is considered "Abandoned" if it is left on a highway, public property or private property in such inoperable or neglected condition.
  • A vehicle is considered "Dismantled" if it is partially or wholly disassembled.
  • A vehicle is considered "Wrecked" if it contains damage that is to such an extent that it cannot be operated upon.
