Mission Statement
The duty of the Oroville Police Department is to safeguard the lives and property of those we serve and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. Through community partnership, we promise to work diligently every day to reduce the incidence of crime and improve the quality of life. Our mandate is to do so with honor and integrity, while at all times conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards to maintain public confidence.

All submissions will be responded to within one (1) business day. If you would like to speak to an officer, please leave your contact information. Otherwise, you may remain anonymous.

Know Your Zone
Oroville residents are strongly encouraged to know their zones, in partnership with the Butte County Sheriff's Office and other local first responder agencies, an easy-to-use interactive evacuation map has been developed to assist the community with staying updated on latest evacuation updates.
Chief Bill LaGrone
Chief LaGrone began working as a patrol officer for the department in 2002 and later assumed his position as Chief of Police in 2010.
As Chief, Mr. LaGrone oversees all divisions within the department, including managing the annual multimillion-dollar budget, media relations, personnel, and recruitment.
Department Goals: Reduce Crime and Improve Quality of Life.
Our Expectations: Integrity, Honesty, Accountability, Respect of Others, Cooperative, Positive Attitude, and Professional Demeanor.
Assistant Chief of Police Jess Darnell
Assistant Chief Jess Darnell began his career at the Oroville Police Department in January of 2022 and assumed his current position as Assistant Chief of Police in 2024.
Before ranking as the Assistant Chief, Mr. Darnell served as the lead Detective for the Oroville Police Department.
As the Assistant Chief, Mr. Darnell assists the Chief in overseeing all division within the department.
The primary focus of the Assistant Chief is to recruit and retain personnel and uphold the mission, goals, and expectations of the department.
